Perhaps this is not really true about any kind of them, perhaps there are not less millions of one kind of men..

(386) I can’t help but kinda laugh how, this section is supposed to be about a character, and is titled after said character, but we have to go through 114 pages of preparation and introspection first 😆 Stein gives no f***s.

That was a particularly difficult passage. Thankfully when she repeats parts of it in other parts it’s a little easier. But the first encounter with it I had a tougher time. Especially bc I had to keep restarting it bc I kept getting phone calls 😵💫

That 2nd sentence ends with and the page generally ends with: “…than there are millions of other kinds of them, perhaps one thinks such a thing about some kinds of men only because in some kinds of men there is more in each one of such a kind, more in the many millions of such a kind of them, of an individual feeling in every one of such a kind of them. Perhaps in some kinds of men there are many more, in the many millions of their kind of them, there are many more of them that have in them a strongly existing individual being than in some other kinds of men other kinds of men of which there are not really any more millions made alike than there are of those kinds of men. Perhaps it is this strongly existing individual being in some of the kinds of men that makes it seem that there are less millions of them in the world of men than there are of other kinds of men other kinds of men who have in most of them less in them of such individual existing. Perhaps it is this in some of the kinds of men those kinds in which many of the millions of them have much in them of individual being, perhaps it is that which makes any one who knows any one of such kinds of men think him more different from the other millions of them made just like him the other millions of his kind of men, makes those who know any of such a kind of men, feel them to be more different one from the other of their kind of men than the ones of some other kind of men are different from the other millions of their kind of men to those who meet many of them. Lol one of some kind of man that there may or may not be millions of, but particularly a certain man not of millions of men who has an importance in themself that another millions of men may not have though millions of other men might think so while millions of other men will think that those millions of other men don’t think so. lol I tried to imitate her

Loll yeah most of the novel has so far been similar to this heh. It’s been refreshing to me coming off after the Forsyte saga heh but I can totally see it seeming like something most people wouldn’t like but I do think it’s pretty unexpected and kinda interesting 😃 to think spent many years on the book makes me think: “damn, I gotta respect the grind” lol
I love a difficult text, but I have to be able to make meaning of it haha can you figure out what she is trying to say with this passage? Is the rest of the thing more intelligible?
Heheh it takes some re-reading 🙂 idk if I 100% understand everything, and there was a point where I think there was a typo and another where I think the wrong persons name was added(which I guess i understand can happen in the printing of a big book) that definitely confused me but then I said “whatever maybe I’ll get more info later”. But overall I’ve noticed after re-reading some tougher passages I can understand the tone that she was going for even when there might have been a lack of commas in spots where there maybe normally would be in a regular book!
