this sequence of the underwater kiss, to the cozy stroll through ghost city, to them writing two halves of a love poem together, to hua cheng deliberately jerking his hand on the brush to make xie lian hold on to him even tighter is so deeply romantic and endearingly absurd and silly and the perfect example of why i love this genre so fucking much

i am once again determined to finish this series and instead of restarting from the beginning like a fool i'm just gonna start from the second half of this volume and go from there. i know volume 1 so well at this point and volume 2 is too depressing to stomach rn so !!!! onward

people writing plays about hua cheng and xie lian’s suspiciously close relationship THAT ARE THEN SHOWN TO ALL THE HEAVENLY OFFICIALS AT THIS BANQUET is so fucking funny. 10/10 no notes i desperately needed this ridiculousness

wow i have not stopped crying throughout the past 20 pages. i am in tatters!!! xie lian slowly but surely breaking and losing all confidence and hope has been a brutal progression, and now seeing him so empty and defeated??? the things this poor kid has been through and this is only the first 20 years of his life. and fucking hua cheng vowing to never forget his goodness even if everyone else does??? everything hurts

well i’ve officially shed my first tears over this fucking story and i KNEW it was coming with how this volume has been progressing. my heart aches so much for xie lian HE JUST WANTED TO HELP PEOPLE AND NOW HE CANT EVEN CRY OR HUG HIS MOTHER BECAUSE HE STILL FEELS LIKE HE HAS TO REMAIN STRONG FOR THE PEOPLE EVEN THOUGH HES COMPLETELY BREAKING INSIDE

“not only has the people stopped believing in him, even he could no longer believe in himself” i am in so much pain!!!!! this volume has been nothing but devastating, the slow descent and loss of hope has been torturous and incredibly well done
