This book is stupid. Why are they boning when their elderly daughter died like 5 mins ago?

This book is batshit.
Where is her cat, Mr Meow? The cat was obviously Amon, but she doesn’t even care that it’s just not around anymore?
And where are the Pierce family? How are they just never spoken about again after the funeral?
But they all live in this tiny town?
This book is written like a stream of consciousness. Heaps of loose ends
