Do I get a medal for reading every disgusting word of that 140-page fever dream? I don't know what they drink in Ireland, but if it gives you rotten hallucinations like that, I don't want any.

Almost finished this looooong fever dream section, where it seemed like Joyce tried to make every page more ridiculously crude than the page before. I haven't been enjoying it.

That one section reads like Joyce dictated it aloud to someone who didn't actually speak English. They had trouble keeping up with him, so every now and then they'd write down garbled nonsense that seemed right in their non-English-speaking mind, but the general meaning of the whole is muddily clear if you just keep reading. Sometimes. You know?
