the last line of dante's inferno is 'e quindi uscimmo a riveder le stelle' (and then we went out to see the stars) and how alex's birth name is a nod to the stars and the sky and the space. and how she's dante, the lost pilgrim who needs a guide (virgil) but later as a virgil substitute helps darlington get out of hell and they sort of switch roles.
