Slooooooowly working through this dusty boi...

This is just dripping with schemes and drama and ungodly thirsty young people.

Ah. Erm. Also lots of casual misogyny and antisemitism. Been a minute since I've read ye olde Russians - I'd somehow spaced on that time honored tradition of marginalizing everyone who isn't white and doesn't have a wiener.

Good times.

It's quite funny... boy does it feel padded though.

The proselytizing and rigid dogmatism is getting really clunky and boring. Page after page - how man craves unification, and how life is so beautiful in God, and how miserable and corrupt and sinful are those who cannot recognize the miracle of God, and etc.

I fucking get it, gott damn.

I may not finish this; the ridiculous Orthodox bullshit is utterly relentless.

Berengaria if it doesn't have you hitting the vodka, you haven't read the Russians. Super that you're actually tackling this one and making good time, too!

Chris I think I gave up the vodka during my last foray into the Russians! 😆 This is honestly killing me right now; some of the monologues and digressions are just so, so plodding and ponderous and preachy and patronizing. Not even intending alliteration there, but - "The Grand Inquisitor" features at least three distinct paragraphs that are more than two full pages in length. Like, what??? Can we get back to the fucking story - this long-ass "prose poem" about the Inquisition killing the second coming of the lord is just... 🙄 Fucking hell.

Berengaria is just......a classic. Say it, "it's a classic"! You don't have to read every word, skim the 19th century attempts at capturing in prose those huge landscape paintings. No TV, no radio, what did they have to while away the hours other than staring at huge panorama art. Doesn't mean you have to examine each blade of grass, too. 😀👍

Chris 🤣 well-said, Berengaria. I'm just afraid that I'll miss something important, and this whole chapter is widely quoted and referenced; it's well-written and deeply philosophical, but... it just doesn't interest me in the slightest. 😅
