What’s off-putting to me (especially in this book) is that every new character is described as beautiful/handsome. Beauty feels almost synonymous with likability while non-conventionally attractiv characters are usually the bad guys. I’d find it much more interesting if beauty standards actually mattered to the story or reflected social hierarchies, instead of just telling us who’s attractive enough to romanticize.

Right right right right - so I'm supposed to sympathise with Warner because he feeds a starving dog and has dimples after he killed multiple people in cold blood and forced himself on the fmc? No, totally.
