What’s off-putting to me (especially in this book) is that every new character is described as beautiful/handsome. Beauty feels almost synonymous with likability while non-conventionally attractiv characters are usually the bad guys. I’d find it much more interesting if beauty standards actually mattered to the story or reflected social hierarchies, instead of just telling us who’s attractive enough to romanticize.
