We are told Nathaniel is doing alchemy experiments against the blight but we don’t actually experience him doing this work. I would have liked some show instead of tell here.

I wish the author had done more to establish the physical world of this story. I assume it’s meant to be medieval but the dialogue is often anachronistic. I can’t really describe what the town or even the greenhouse/shops/homes of the MCs look like. This story seems emotion centered with world building taking a back seat.
