General Ironbeak is not nearly as interesting or frightening as Slagar, and is part of why the C plot back at Redwall Abbey is by far the weakest part of the book.
However, what makes it more palatable is the Mattimeo A plot and Matthias B plots, as Jacques transitions between all three multiple times throughout the chapter. It feels much more cinematic that way and more fun.
