Holy crap! That battle of Anielle was something else. Everything from getting armor (made me laugh) to Lorcan to Aelin. I was so locked in. And the up in the north with Aedion. Rolfe, all of it. Will admit it pulled at my heart when Aedion told Ren to put out the call for help and how he said no one answered 10 years before. I think it will be different this time. I just know it!

I really just love Borte. I swear she’s just like Aelin. Also flipping Darrow decided to have some humanity. Nope still do not like him. And y’all that moment when Aelin showed up to the battle???? Chills! But I can’t talk about the western gate and what happened there. My heart hurts. This book is dragging me through it.

DORIAN!!!!!!! Holy crap was that stressful! This is getting full crazy but once again Aelin and her letters change the game. I’m dying to read these letters because she can do some damage with those things. So now it looks like we’re marching onto the big battle and it’s about to get REAL intense from here on out. I think. Yeah. Likely.

Really three things happening at once. The battle in the north with Aedion and Lysandra. And oof that’s rough going. Manon and Dorian with the Crochan witches with that awesome showdown with the matrons. And finally Aelin back at Chaol’s place. Some cracks in her but I think she’ll rally before when she feels weak, Rowan is there to lend her the strength she needs.

Oh Rowan Whitethorn, you are the very measure of a man. I appreciate his viciousness when it’s needed. And oh how it was needed for Cairn. I also appreciate how he seems to know exactly what Aelin needs. But it was Fenrys. Fenrys and his pain, his grief, his courage that was so achingly beautiful and painful all at once. Good bit of writing there.

So both a lot has happened and not much has happened in these first hundred pages or so. Lots of positioning, Rowan searching for his wife, and Aelin’s POV (toughest part). At this point it feels more like we’re moving the pieces on the chess board. But oh yeah, Darrow sucks. Still.
