Lamp at him, engulfing him in flames, they grapple. Claudia is fighting the musician vampire. She defeats him, Louis grabs Claudia and runs down the stairs out of the fire, and in to the night. The towns people have become alert to the fire, entering the house to help but he runs past them.

Claudia kills lestat by getting 2 orphan boys drunk on absinthe and then offering them up to lestat, after he is out of sorts, she kills him. They get rid of the boys bodies and lestats in the river. Lestat had taken a liking to a young musician, Claudia and Louis could never understand if he was going to kill him. He comes to the house asking for lestat and Louis notices he has been bitten. Still bored.
Lestat creates Claudia so that Louis won’t leave. She is a child and will never grow. After many years together she develops a dislike for lestat and encourages Louis they should run away. She’s convinced he knows nothing about other vampires and most likely killed the vampire who created him. Louis and Claudia make plans to take passage to Europe. But Claudia wants to kill lestat first.

Lestats father dies. The slaves of Louis plantation have been speaking. They have to run and Louis burns his house down. They hide at Louis neighbours estate, Louis saves her for lestat, they escape to New Orleans.

80 pages in and I’m kinda bored. It’s similar to bury our bones in the midnight soil in the sense Louis does not like lestat who has changed him. Lestat is wild and kills without care, he just needs Louis because he has property, money and financial responsibility which Louis lacks and he needs a stable home and money to look after his elderly blind mortal father. They are discovered as vampires the night
