I’ve officially mentally checked out

What bothers me is the dissonance between the vernacular and the genre/what’s happening. Why do we have so much cheap flirting and modern speaking pattern when this is a YA high fantasy? And why are we suddenly waxing poetry when she speaks her feelings? It feels incredibly out of place because nobody talks like that. If you adapt modern day language, you cannot have epic confessions. It’s ridiculous

I cannot stand when the FMC is stubbornly in denial about the truth and her feelings and needs to be told by everyone else that they know what she really wants and how she really feels. Can we stop doing that? It makes the FMC annoying, immature, and stupidly stubborn. The flirting also feels like I’ve read it a million times already because the FMC denies her emotions & it results in a pattern

This started out so well. Why is the dialogue and the MMC so fucking cringe. Why is the dialogue and bickering and “cheeky” comebacks so modern-day like I’m going to VOMIT

I’m confused. If they have the words magic & magical, why go out of your way to create a new word (ellixen?) for it
