Yes OK, so the Hero King had children, but because of how Rekon society works those kids went off and did their own thing. So the throne was passed to his courtiers, who were human. The kingdom then eventually fell to the Nhaga? But what about the curse? Maybe the curse caused the kingdom to fall to the Nhaga.

I had to google the lore about the Hero King, I got confused and forgot some details. I feel bad, I should be able to remember. The Hero King was Rekon, but passed his throne to humans. The human kingdom of Arajit ruled for 700 years, until the last king insulted the Kitaljer warriors and they placed a curse on the kingdom. And humanity has been without a ruler ever since.

They’re bringing Ryun north to prevent the murder of a god. Thats what the Corpsefall was talking about. I feel like they may have shared this information earlier in the book, but I’ve forgotten.

Why are we still talking about the stupid leather merchant?

Yosby was Kagan’s adoptive father. Fuck.
He’s lonely. Deep down, Kagan hates himself for eating the Nhaga, and wishes for companionship in his murderous life. ‘The smell of blood keeps everyone away’.

There’s the title of the series. It’s a beautiful lesson. Keeping your heart open to the feelings of others will eventually kill you, but until then, your heart will be good and pure. Byong and I both have a lot of empathy, and we both suffer because of it.

Byong’s my favourite.
Kagan understands the Nhaga not because he kills them, but because of his relationship with Yosby. Yosby gained an understanding of human culture from Kagan and passed it on to his son. Their love changed each other.
What is Byong thinking about the Duoksini? I still don’t fully understand the blood thing. Who is the God That Kills Himself?

Karu is the one who nearmed about killing a god. Why? Does it have something to do with escorting a Nhaga out of the jungle?

OK this is really weird. It’s very creative, but also just. Really weird. And disgusting.

It’s obvious that Sammo and Ryun love each other. Why does that seem like such a taboo fact? Either a sibling bond between a brother and sister is taboo, because of Nhaga sexism, or my worst fears are true and their feelings aren’t familial, but romantic.
