was gonna dnf while reading the Angola Prison chapter, and then I got to the Blandford Cemetery chapter and I appreciate his observations. I think finishing will feel like a waste of time, but I'm still learning things, and it's good to brush up on history every now and then. Definitely going to be unhauling, since his writing style is too memoir, anecdotal for me.

not to mention it's odd how surprised he seems when anyone isn't an alt-right racist and shows even a slight interest in the truth and injustices. Like...duh? This book was published in 2021, ofc most ppl at a museum or plantation are gonna be open to learning about the dark side of our country's history. It's more or less common knowledge by now.

I can already tell I'm not going to like the book. He has some good observations, but there is a lot of dialogue and WAY too many descriptions. Every single time someone is introduced, he has to give us a detailed account of what they're wearing, what they look like, how they styled their hair. Usually in that order. Too much useless information, I just want to learn about the history.
