Haw thought about how much his old behavior was influenced by fears & old beliefs. He realized that it was natural for change to occur, whether you expected it or not. “Old beliefs do not lead you to new cheese.” You can believe that change will harm you & resist it; or you can believe that finding new cheese will help you & embrace it. “When you see that you can find & embrace new cheese, you change course.”

Change happens. They keep moving the cheese. Anticipate change: get ready for the cheese to move. Monitor change: smell the cheese often to know when it’s getting old. Adapt to change quickly: the quicker you let go of old cheese, the sooner you can enjoy new cheese. Change: move with the cheese. Enjoy change: savor the adventure. Be ready to change quickly and enjoy it again- they keep moving the cheese.

Haw thought about Hem and wanted to go back and convince him to see his predicament and embrace the change. But he realized he had already tried to get his friend to change.
Hem had to find his own way, beyond his comforts and past his fears. No one else could do it for him, or talk him into it. He would have to somehow see the advantage of changing himself.

As Haw enjoyed the new cheese he found, he reflected: when he had been afraid of change, he was holding on to the illusion of old cheese that was no longer there. He also realized that change began the moment he could laugh at himself. The fastest way to change is to laugh at your own folly- you can let go & move on faster.
The biggest inhibitor to change lies within yourself, and nothing gets better until YOU change

Haw realized: “The quicker you let go of old cheese, the faster you find new cheese.” He went to go share some with Hem, but Hem wanted his old cheese and said he wouldn’t like new cheese. “I’m not going to change until I get what I want.”
As Haw pushed through his fear, he realized: “It is safer to search in the maze, instead of remain in a cheeseless situation.”

Haw was more motivated when he imagined, in clear detail, finding & eating the cheese he wanted.
“Imagining myself enjoying new cheese, even before I find it, leads me to it.”
He realized he had always thought that a change would lead to something worse. Now he saw that change could also lead to something better; something to gain (instead of just losing). This propelled him through the maze with greater speed.

Haw realized if he had been more alert & anticipated change, it would have been easier to deal with it.
“Smell the cheese often so you know when it is getting old.”
When Haw met dead ends, he would get discouraged at first, but then imagined what if he weren’t afraid.
“Movement in a new direction helps you find new cheese.”
“When you move beyond fear, you feel free.”

“If you do not change, then you can become extinct.”
Hem was wondering: “Who moved my cheese?” But Haw was wondering: “why didn’t I get up and move with the cheese sooner?”
As he worked up his courage to go out into the maze, he thought:
“What would you do if you weren’t afraid?”

We all have our own ideas of what cheese means to us: having material things, enjoying good health, a good job, a good position, a house, or achieving spiritual well-being.
The maze is the environment in which we try to obtain cheese.
“The more important your cheese is to you, the more you want to hold on to it.”
