This is getting late in the series where authors like to trot out every previous character and use a book as an extended epilogue of all the other books.

I like the dopey cheerful aliens over the grumpy ones.

So this one isn’t in the arranged marriage trope of the series. Should be interesting as I was getting tired of the same thing with this series.

Ava That’s kind of how I felt ab book 8 - it was still cute but I wasn’t as interested anymore

Sarah Mac Puke emoji. There should be some kind of union regulation against the endless-previous-couples-parade.

Yes when they go on too long it feels like a family reunion and not an actual story.

Yes, authors should follow a rule of thumb in series, make sure every book is a stand alone, this does not mean recapping twenty previous plots.

Sarah Mac Yes. Exceptions for standalones must be filed in advance, with sequential-necessary reads clearly marked on the cover, e.g. “___ ___ Trilogy, Book 2.” Otherwise standalone installments are assumed by default.

Kristina Yes, if it’s picking up from a previous unresolved plot or cliffhanger, then it must be clearly marked. If it’s a new story altogether but just had recaps and epiloguing for shits and giggles it’s banned or significantly discounted. Like if the story is mostly a novella with a lot of family reunion shit then you can’t charge full price.

Sarah Mac Totally. It needs a Reunion Recap stamp on the cover & a hard limit in price—also, no bells or whistles, like no upcharge for some “special deluxe edition” with sprayed edges or 3 bonus epilogues.

Kristina Precisely. You can’t write a 15 book series, and each book is more recapping until there is no actual plot left.

Sarah Mac We need to bring these points up for a vote at the next union meeting. Readers have tolerated this abuse for too long! 🫡

Wordsbetweencups ( Grace) Yes, is something that I really don't like
