Blake I've only read the book (not helpful to your question, I know), but Stephen King is infamously shit at writing female characters. It's very noticeable in "Carrie" and becomes a burden. Maybe, though, with some fresh scriptwriters for this new TV show, they can make it work.

Nel i think Carrie was the first book of his ive read but it was donkey years ago so i dont even remember what i thought of it. The shows seems to have decent ratings so far, i might check it out at least. The fact that Carries actress is conventionally attractive is a bit boggling thou cuz i dont think she was in the book.

Blake Yes! I've noticed that too. But movies are often allergic to making women (specifically) unattractive, or at least making them look below average...
And yeah, I think in the book she definitely had acne. Maybe some weight problems as well.

if they make her too unattractive, people might think she deserved it. /s

Nyer i’ve only heard the opinion that the actress cast in the lead role is too beautiful, and that this contradicts the entire point of the book, but you pointed it out already. somehow big industry is afraid of like... normal looking people and hire only top models, even if it ruins the core of the plot

100%! Plot is irrelevant, as long as a cutie makes the sales go up. But maybe even then the show is decent enough, who knows.
