Interesting but unsuccessful in my view. The novel is bookended by two sections of the diary of the anthroplogist David and these are the most interesting sections. The banquet section in the middle, a parady/ homage to Rabelais, is tiresome. Also my edition was littered with spelling errors. There are some interesting themes - death, the wheel or life and ecology which are linked together.
