I'm really enjoying this book, although it's different than what I expected. I thought we were going to review all of these historical documents on colour and explain what they're actually about. The book instead merely mentions when they were written, why they are important (like if they were the first ones to show something a certain way) and shows some pictures from the manuscripts/publications.

Mila N. [continuation] I thought the book was actually going to explain colour theory from the manuscripts themselves, so I could see how concepts regarding colour had changed throughout the centuries. I don't know if the original edition does that or not, but this one is more like a catalog. So I'm trying to get a hold of the works mentioned in this book, on one hand, it's easy because most of them are in the public domain, but I do depend on museums to upload scans of them online. On the other, lots of them are in languages I don't understand, or hand written, so I've been using software to transcribe and translate them.

The first one, "Klaer lightende spiegel der verjkonst" has not yet been translated into English in its totality (I've seen some pages be translated by the ArtMatters
international journal for technical art history, but not everything. So I've been doing the process at home. I'm roughly 25% through with the book, and then I'll finally be able to actually read it! It's going to take a few days, and I'm worried the translation is not good since I don't speak Dutch, I'm using automated translations and AI for it, so I'll take it with a pinch of salt.

I never thought I'd be translating a 17th century manuscript on paint mixing but here we are!
