"And Alma and Amulek went forth preaching repentance to the people in their temples, and in their sanctuaries, and also in their synagogues, which were built after the manner of the Jews."
Why did the Jewish writer feel the need to state that the Jews whom he's writing about built their Jewish house of worship "after the manner of the Jews?" How else should it have been built, 78 years before Jesus was even born?

Does it occur to these guys that the king might punish them for making him lose his property?
Follow-up question: did it occur to Smith?

"Now they wept because of the fear of being slain. Now when Ammon saw this his heart was swollen within him with joy."
Nice guy, Ammon.

Oh, at some point Smith decided which Josephite tribe they're from. (Or possibly remembered which one was on those missing pages.)

First "Amaleki," now "Amulek." Smith really seems to like that name (which God commanded to be erased from memory).

"And behold, [Jesus] shall be born of Mary, at Jerusalem which is the land of our forefathers."
Um. Jesus was rather famously born in BETHLEHEM, at least according to the New Testament.
A generous interpretation is that Smith is using "Jerusalem" to stand for the whole "land of our forefathers." The term "Zion" can mean Jerusalem or the entire Land of Israel, but I don't think "Jerusalem" is ever used that way.

It's hard to tell what's a grammar mistake and what's just the weird phrasing of Smith's Ye Olde Butcherede Englishe, but "which is of more importance than they all" does not sound right even by Shakespearean standards.

Silk and linen, eh? In pre-Columbian America?
I know we've already had wild cows, but c'mon, man, silk is rather famously from China.

"My soul was wracked with eternal torment; but I am snatched, and my soul is pained no more."
I don't think you know what "eternal" means.

Alma is "receiving many" into the church, and also "being persecuted by all those who did not belong," but they have the king on their side. If anything, shouldn't this be the official religion that everyone is required to join? This isn't the early church or 19th century Mormonism. The authorities are on your side here.
