i’m intrigued to see how Lee goes through the novel. right now he seems to exist “outside” this east of eden / genesis retelling. i don’t know if it’s because he’s considered a foreigner by the land (barred out of the narrative cycle imposed on those that live here) or if steinbeck is trying to make a comment

ASAM YOU MAKE ME SICK

oh cathy my lovely cathy

steinbeck and i need to have a fireside chat. i love his position as a quasi-omniscient character in his own novel. is john steinbeck god in his own novel?
