I loved the intersection of Nettie's story with the Olinka village and Celie's story in Georgia. To see how we're all the same and how we're different was effective. I love the narrative structure being in letters in their personal voices. Sometimes they carried on a bit much, but it's definitely in those sections to savor the words (bc every word in this story has a purpose).

I had an idea about a short story long ago, about how our ego turns differences into a way to oppress people (men against women, adults against children, abled against disabled, white against black) and I feel one powerful monologue by Celie near the end covered it deliciously: "We're all just looking for our serpent (something to hate and blame and overpower).

So I'm bawling. The ending destroyed me. When she saw her sister again... phew. I could not keep it together. This really goes to show that despite all the pain and trauma, love can stretch continents, can connect the world and us all, can give us the will to live when life seems full of misery.
