i can see how guadagnino could interpret their relationship as an almost-romantic codependent relationship, even though they are written more as a trauma bonded platonic relationship

there is this air of eroticism that hangs in the allegorical storytelling that is using cannibalism as a plot device for an all consuming emotion, like love or sexual attraction
