Loving the self-aware Fable in the last few chapters. Also enjoying the strain all her deals are putting on the crew and that there is depth to these characters - no one is just rolling over and accepting what’s happening because the MMC and FMC say so.

Koy redemption arc!!? Lowkey love him and would like to see more of his character fleshed out now that he’s joining the marigold…

Found another error - use of ‘the’ twice. Little things like this really take me out of the story but fortunately, Young is an incredible writer and I was thrown right back in. Great descriptions, world building and twists! Isolde being Holland’s daughter!!? West appearing!!?

Slight inconsistency - on page 39 fable is unbuttoning her shirt to pull it over her head but on 42, she’s reaching into her shirt to pull out West’s ring. Maybe she didn’t finish pulling her shirt off but Young was detailing everyone pulling their shirts off and laying them on the boat (power play between dredgers). It’s taken me out of the story a bit.

Maybe I am being too critical or remembering aspects of the first book incorrectly but what is so dark and dangerous about West? I can’t remember anything sticking out to me so I’m confused about this element of his character. Also, Fable wants to make a name for herself and leave her past behind but is still talking about her father and how “every bastard on this ship will know she is Saint’s daughter.”
