I could do without the flashbacks -- they seem to be trying to round out Rowan's character, but mostly they just interrupt the flow of the actual plot. I've started skimming them in case there's something important, but I'd really rather read a story that keeps moving. The "Day X" present-time story is interesting enough on its own.

Baz was a lanky white man with graying hair that he kept trimmed with a trendy circle beard.
That beard is doing double duty if it's also trimming the guy's hair! This is the only real clunker sentence I've seen in this book so far, but it made me stop reading and laugh.
