CONFLICT- The conflict is characters v. society because the characters have to save the world from the goddess Gaea and her minions. The characters also have to save two other friends that are trapped in Tartarus. The book says, "...they might be able to open the Doors on the mortal side, save their friends, and seal the entrance, stopping Gaea's forces..." This shows the problems they need to solve in the novel.

SUMMARY- Percy, Annabeth, Jason, Piper, Frank, Hazel, and Leo must close the Doors of Death to prevent Gaea from taking over the world. The events take place in Tartarus and near Italy in the 2000s. Gaea has taken control of the Doors of Death which allows her to bring anyone back from the dead. The book says, "...you could still reach Epirus and close the Doors of Death. You might find Gaea and prevent her rise."p24
