Aaaand it got a little preachy. I suppose that is always the risk when the theme is learning self-sacrifice: it is difficult to do that well. I am a little disappointed and unsure if I will continue. But I will definitely explore her other novels because I suspect their subject matter, plots, and themes do not leave much room for preachiness and that they will better provide a satisfying story.

It’s so lovely and quiet. Maggie is already a conscientious young woman, quite sweet and deserving better than she’s getting. And the tone is so nice and intimate, and the style is just what I need. And what a cover!
