For a story about Indian tribes there's little if any use of the language. And while not stories of Indians, the Cork O'Connor series it's packed with Ojibwe language since Aurora MN is home to reservations. I'm not all that impressed with this but will continue with hopes it improves

In a word, underwhelming. I'll continue but it's likely I'll put it in the DNF pile

As mentioned early in the story the author uses far too much dialog and nearing the 100 page mark nothing has changed. While I may be in the minority use of this much dialog is typical with screen plays but I personally feel it drags the pace much as overuse of back story does in a novel

Difficult not to draw a vague parallel to the Dances with Wolves movie. The difference being Costner weds a white woman raised by the Indians and as a result lives the Indian ways. Here, Goes First marries a white trader and similar to Costners bride is strong willed and able bodied

I find the narrative style to be pedestrian and while I enjoy stories about Indian tribal life it's not what I had expected
