"We decamped back to the patio for dinner, an unfussy mix..."

Hopefully that dinner was less fussy than "we decamped back to", which could have been "We returned to the patio for dinner...".

I don't know why, but writing nuances like this annoy me. Simplicity would not detract from the book's academic bent.
