I thought it was strange that Poirot gave up on retrieving the gold thing from the fountain, I should have known better

Agatha Christie uses the word 'clew' instead of 'clue'. It was the original way of spelling the word because it references the ball of thread or clew Theseus uses to get out of the labyrinth. It became a popular word to reference ways to solve a problem, and then became clue, probably to differentiate it as it's own thing

That's twice now and from two different people Flora has been told she might regret getting to the bottom of this business
