Maomao is back to her old way of life after assignment from Jinshi. Unsure if Gyokuyou is pregnant again but she’s been taking it easier. A lot of gossip about the new consort that Maomao doesn’t want to get involved with. Maomao has opinions on the emperor but chooses to do anything thru proxy with Jinshi since it wouldn’t be her place to talk directly with him.

A whole family feud is happening omg! Maomao wagers games of Shogi towards Lakan and adds stipulations. Ultimately results in Maomao knocking out Lakan with alcohol.

Lakan is up to no good and tries to get Jinshi in trouble by asking for blue roses for the next party. With roses being out of season and blue roses not really existing it makes it pretty much impossible but Maomao does her thing and problem solves and claps back leaving people at the party excited by how pretty they are. She dyed them and forced them to bloom early. She then also starts red nails

Lihaku comes to Maomao for advice on buying Pairin's contract causing a whole bunch of miscommunication/confusion that is entertaining. Jinshi offers to buy it for Lihaku but Lihaku ultimately declines Jinshi's assistance. Maomao still has some worried about Lihaku getting Pairin but there's not much you can do.

Maomao decides to clean the room the doctor stays in. She still doesn't think the doctor does much but we learn more about his family and past. Apparently they make paper and he was proud of it but then not too long after got word they might go out of business. Maomao took the initiative to theorycraft why their quality in paper had gone downhill, hopefully saving the doctor's family

Basically Gaoshun and Jinshi having a real one accompanied by Suiren. With partners n offspring n such and the history of the palace. JUST FOUND OUT SUIREN AND SUIREI ARE DIFFERENT CHARACTERS OOPS. Anyway I looked it up so I don't have any more confusion on what happened with who. Wish they made a bit more of an effort to say hey these are 2 completely different people with different roles.

DRAMA OMG. Maomao tried investigating, got hurt, woke up in Jinshi's quarters and then laid out her conspiracy theory in front of everyone. Shortly after Suirei poisoned herself and "DIED" only for Maomao to use the context clues and find sus that in fact she escaped and faked her death instead. Maomao is highkey smart this one is the most cohesive mystery so far in my opinion. Now she wants poison

Maomao has been trying to figure out what the string of coincidences mean and finally has a eureka moment partly aided by the person stationed with her. She tries to go to the ritual site but the guards won't let her through because of her status. Thinking she's up to no good they try knocking her out but someone lets her through. Jinshi sees her and is like yikes with how bruised up she is

This chapter was all about Suiren. We get to see more of her stand-off ish character that is similar to Maomao in some ways. She can get on Maomao’s ass a bit but also is curious about her medicinal capabilities. Apparently she also has some relations with the military doctor and under his orders does some stuff for him.
