Anna called Lily out on her shit and how she hates looking like a foreigner.
The Taipei beauty standard: “prepubescent celestial fairy: pale porcelain skin and shiny black hair; no boobs; wan, elegant smiles; toothy grins only if your teeth were platinum-white. Sometimes a pigmented pink swipe under the eyes-just a hint of conjunctivitis. The internet informed me that this was the douyin style of eye makeup.”

Her mom texts then calls to tell her that her grandpa died. She reflects on the past regrets her decision not to put more effort into keeping in contact with them. “I was a shitty granddaughter who couldn’t be bothered to filled out some forms” to go visit them in China. Her mom flies to the funeral with a couple hours layover in Taiwan so they meet up

He was all “I think you’re a really special person.” and she responds, “Oh! Well, thanks.” Bro just wanted to get in her pants fr. They didn’t end up doing anything and he goes super distant. Then goes back and tells everyone that she blew him in the hot spring when she didn’t even! Anna hates her, refuses to be home with her. She goes to a party and gets roasted by a guy named Andrew

Anna, Lily, and JC had planned to go the hot springs in Beitou together but JC “messed up” the dates and only Lily ended up going with him. Anna was pissed! Trip was so awkward, she could tell he wanted to be sexual but she wasn’t about it. The room was disappointing and nothing like the photo. He asked her to blow him and she goes “‘but we just had ramen.’ He blinked at me. ‘Huh?’” SO FUNNY

Learning lots. Chengyu’s are idioms, four character phrases that invoked a folktale or an allusion to a classic text. Kind of like a metaphor. I like chengyu’s.

She has an impulsive thought that every Asian person she encounters is a relative/family friend because that was the case in her childhood in America. “So every time we passed an old person on the past, I felt a protective pang in my chest. And every time they returned my gaze, I smiled and waved, and I kept feeling confused when they didn’t wave back.”

She started class (boring!), one of her teachers called her out on her pretentiousness and called her lazy. She likes JC it seems.
“I felt a thrill everytime I came down the stairs and saw him waiting in the lobby. I always assumed this was the day he would find other plans or decide I was not as interesting as he’d thought. He could have lunch with anyone in Taipei and still he wanted to have lunch with me.”

Side note because this girl is so performatively annoying. Pre-rehearsing menu items to order and dissuading her friends from ordering what they wanted if she didn’t know the characters. She’s trying so hard to come off as authentic but this is so embarassing to read about PLS
