Okay, the plot is starting to catch my attention. It's just the writing style that's rubbing me the wrong way. There's a bluntness to it that comes off very bland and pedestrian despite the intriguing premise.

Maybe I'm a snob, but I'm starting to notice that a lot of adult fiction coming out these days is written using the same 2010's YA narrator voice and it's really starting to get on my nerves.
