“Elain grimaced, but tried again. “There’s also the fact that I’m Made.” Mor stilled. Elain pressed on, “And I am a Seer. I might not be privy to all your meetings, but I’m not a fool. I listen. I’m clever enough, even if none of you think of me that way.”

“I don’t want to go to an empty house. I don’t want to be locked away and forgotten.”

“What Bryaxis had shown her yesterday at the temple had cemented for her that she could never tell him, though. She’d barely slept at all last night thanks to seeing it play out, over and over again, in agonizing detail.”

“He’d find Elain. He’d talk to her, after everyone had some time to cool off. Together, he and Elain would figure out a plan. And then they’d make everything right.”
