Back to reality, an old lady comes by to take note of inventory as D is renting a room in South France and is scheduled to leave the following morning. She inspects the rooms and questions about his lifestyle. Before leaving, she drops traditional wisdom on him, urging D to stop wandering, find a good woman, start a family, and pray. Her presence fills D with immense guilt and a desperate desire for forgiveness.

G & D ate. G told D the story of how he became Guillaume's barman. They met at a theatre, and was asked out. G had not intended on showing up, but he was hungry. Eventually G realised that Guillaume owns a bar and he managed to get a job under him. G is not interested in Guillaume.

D said he had to go but G WAS FLIRTING, they went back to G's place and 😩
"soon it was too late to do anything but moan"

Unnamed "It" warns D about G.

Jacques approaches D & says that everyone in the bar noticed that D & G hit it off.

D could not bring up Hella (she's still in Spain)

D & G are flirting.

"And when you have waited/-has it made you sure?" - G

D realises that when G was called upon (G is still working), they were being watched. D became afraid once again.

It was David's 2nd year in Paris. He was on the verge of eviction, which drove him to ask Jacques for money. David dislikes Jacques, but knows he can exploit Jacques’s attraction to him to secure a loan.

Given his good mood, they visited the bar that Jacques like (Gay bar) owned by J's acquaintance, Guillaume. There was a new barman, Giovanni.

G & D chat.

Mother (Deceased when David was 5)

Aunt Ellen came into the picture after Mother died. Father & Aunt Ellen did not get along. She would scold the Father over his drunkenness & women.

David got into a car accident while drunk. He & Father are quite disconnected.

He moved from America to France after "cleaning his act" and having joined the army.

Protagonist & Joey were around the same age, in Brooklyn. At Joey's, they horsed around and in the middle of the night, an act of love between them.

"I was suddenly afraid"

He washed up and made an excuse to leave. He didn't see Joey until accidentally, and made up a story about seeing a girl.

In school, he befriended bullies and made Joey miserable

Protagonist is at a house South of France, and headed to Paris.

Hella - Protagonist's Wife

Protagonist met Wife at a bar, out drinking and watching. He liked her and asked her to marry in before she went to Spain.

He met Giovanni. It's not his first time with a boy, though he says it is. Giovanni was about to be killed in the morning by guillotine.

In protagonist's teens, he was with a boy, Joey.
