I only started reading this because I left my actual current fantasy chonker at my parents' place. I barely remember Anomander Rake from Gardens of the Moon, and he seems to be the only thing people coming to this book in 2012 cared about, so I can only hope it stands alone well enough. I'm sure the hell not going to reread Gardens to refresh my memory.

This evening - we have family in town. Why?
Just wondering of the experience of being away from a book in progress. If it was going to be, like, 3 months, that’s a whole other thing.
I've done it quite a few times, at this point, with many different books. Early on, there's little flow to be broken. With audiobooks, I tend to start over; with paper, I rely on context clues.
