I thought this book was gonna be cringe. We all remember how bad 2016 YA could be at times, but impressively, this book is rich. Both characters have strong backgrounds as immigrants from different ethnicities, and they play a role in how they behave. The interjections make the city feel more alive and believable. It's a rare third person omniscient, and it works well.
