The author is a good writer but It’s not really my cup of tea. Their writing, at least in this book, is laced with such contempt for history that it is uncomfortable to read… that may be the point, but it’s just something that doesn’t really work for me.

On top of that it hasn’t even gotten into what Tarare was actually known for, just a made-up version of his childhood which in reality we know nothing of.
