this man is hurting my brain... all this talk of body and soul is exhausting. phaedo is a tough one to get through cause you gotta be paying utmost attention to socrate's countless analogies, and especially since plato is recounting a conversation that phaedo is recounting, so we're pulled between the day of socrates' death - speaking to cebes and simmias - and the actual conversation between phaedo and echecrates

'is it better to speak or to die?' BOTH. socrates chose both and he threatened that even if they dismissed the trial and let him live, he still wouldn't shut up because telling the truth and ensuring that he (and others) lived an examined life was his one and only duty. fuck the athenian court. i got emotional when he started talking about the people he'd meet after death like orpheus, ajax, sisyphus. rip king <|3

rereading these dialogues but in a different translation since i might be attending a lecture series on plato's dialogues next month. euthyphro done- went back to check my first comment on my first read and it was 'socrates was a ragebaiter' and i still stand by that. although i must admit euthyphro is not the brightest bulb either. he let himself be ragebaited lol. i promise i'm taking this seriously. what is piety?
