Dramatic moment! It is a little funny how our heroine can never guess the most likely explanation.

I read this many years ago, but honestly have no memory of anything this far and it seems far removed from what I thought it was like. Although Austen seems to be foreshadowing a major shift, so we shall see.

The satire sees to have nearly died away at this point.

Interesting balance of satire and good storytelling.
