I do think Traddles and Mr. Peggotty truly love the women in their lives in a beautiful way. Traddles likes having sisters in law way more than the average man for sure lol.

Not only did I know that he lowkey liked Agnes the whole time, but the kicker is his wife knew. Dora knew he liked Agnes, she even commented on it. David Copperfield was the OG of “she’s like a sister to me.” Yah, alright buddy. Rest in peace Dora. I feel you were written as way dumber than you were.

Every time they call Dora his child wife I actively cringe. She is literally the same age as him, and the infantilization of women during this time period is alarming. Poor Dora :( I don’t know if she had some form of mental disability, but regardless no one helped her along properly. I knew she wasn’t going to live long.

Uriah is a bad guy, and intends to ruin a family for his own personal gain. I’m not excusing him, however am I the only one who feels that David is harder on him (to a ridiculous extent) than James Steerforth. James also ruined a whole family, and instead of preying on someone’s addiction…he preyed on someone’s love and compassion. But it’s okay cause he’s rich and pretty…what?

I think my favorite thing about Mr. Peggotty’s character is that he isn’t concerned about what people think of him. He is one of the only men in these kinds of books that genuinely seems to love his niece in an unconditional way.

Rosa is one of those characters who is both infuriating and sympathetic. Steerforth is a rich, pig, mamas boy who treats women like trash, but ig she’s in too deep.

The character of Dora was definitely written with some resentment in this man’s heart. Her and David’s mom are almost comically stupid, which I understand is supposed to speak to the social norms of the time, but the idea of men liking stupid women at any time is such a foreign concept to me.

Oh gosh. I could feel that Steerforth was a bit bad. Maybe not so great a friend, but I wasn’t expecting him to be an antagonist. He did get that guy fired, and he was pretty rude to Traddles. But now he’s about to leave Emily in the dust with a tarnished reputation.

Bro has pretty intense crushes. Little fella is a romantic for sure
