I think that if this book focused on Dorothea, it would be a five star book. Easy. But Eliot has interwoven all these other plot-lines that I do not really care about. And why do we never hear from/about Celia?

Title: Middlemarch
Subtitle: Why Protestants need Pre-Cana

“His experience was of that pitiable kind which shrinks from pity…” this is not the first word rep.

I am really enjoying the Dorothea plot line. The Vincy one, not as much.

There is a Caius! What are the chances?

I love reading about Fred, but I despise his mother.

I keep thinking about the truth of her comments about dating/courting. So true. People often see each glimpsed gift of their new lover as an indication of greater depths, but those gifts are definitely not bottomless.

Fred is the WORST but I love hearing about him haha

Mmm… definitely a lull, as I don’t care who is voted in as… vicar, is it?

“Ay, to be sure, there should be a little devil in a woman,” said Mr. Chichley, whose study of the fair sex seemed to have been detrimental to his theology. Lol

“But pride only helps us to be generous; it never makes us so, any more than vanity makes us witty.”

“But is there any yoked creature without its private opinions?”
