This is not a quick read, but something to read/ponder over a long period of time. I've read that Augustine's writing style is more approachable than many of the spiritual writers from his time period as he believed that his teachings should be accessible to all. While I am only in Book 2, I find that assertion true. There are many who disagree what he says in the City, there is only one way to find out - read it.
