Dr Roth burst from the opening. “There’s been a catastrophe. They’ve taken Abby.”
“How can we go after them? Can we take the van?”
Dr Roth spoke uncomfortably. “Yeah, about that. I kind of wrecked it.” Mrs Baker’s mouth went horrified.
“There is no way to follow them? We have no transport?”
“How badly is the van wrecked?” Mr Baker asked.
“It won’t start. I have no clue what it would take to fix the engine.”

Sigurd reached for a shelf on the wall, unlatched it, and pressed it down. As Jigson watched, he realized the shelf was attached to a slab of rock that rested flat against the wall...A hollow was revealed behind the slab, but nothing was in it.
