I received a friends request from someone who gets all their book reviews 5 STARS. I had to decline them. I can't trust reviews from someone like that. Is it just me?

Jane I agree, you can’t trust someone so optimistic 😂

Sam I AMNreader No, I trust people most who have an average rating of <4.

The only exception I can see is if they are really reading only their favorites...

Pamela Maybe that someone is rating just the 5 star reads here on goodreads. But you're right, it's hard to decide if a book is worth reading if all the ratings are the same

Nikki They want those ARCs lol.

It is always hard to give one of favs a crappy review. I agree that the <4 is a great way of looking at it. I only give 5 STARS to truly great books.

That's why I can't be friends with people like that. It is nothing against them personally but I pay attention to my friends ratings and base my reading choices off of them. It helps me weed out the books I know I wouldn't like and the ones I should try out.

Fact! Fact! Fact! I couldn't agree more.

 A. I received a friend request from a person who rated all of their books 1-2 stars. Why read if you are not enjoying anything?

message 10: by Princess J. (new)

Princess J. Antoinette Nope, not just you Danielle!!! I don't necessary depend on other people review because I need to form my own opinion of a book but it's helpful to have honest reviews from others to even see if it's possible you may like a book. Sometime the blurbs don't give you enough information on a book and you need the reviews to get the feel of it. So I get it!!

message 11: by Princess J. (new)

Princess J. Antoinette Just a thought: maybe this person you're speaking of is to lazy to write or form a opinion or just to soft hearted to give a honest opinion.. There's no room on GR's for that.. Well not for strong readers anyway.. IJS...

message 12: by Bubu (new)

Bubu I'm actually following one reviewer who gives almost every book 5 stars. There's the occasional 4 star review. But, and you'll probably laugh at my silliness, the reviews are like a heat-o-meter. I always know how steamy the book is.

I'm quite the perv sometimes.

I would have the same question. What they hell are they even doing if they can't enjoy any books?! Good point.

I know there was one book that I was going to read because it was by a favorite author of mine until I saw the reviews. The subject matter would have turned me completely off and I was so happy for my friends here to know not to waste my time. That's what it's all about. . . and getting to know fellow book addicts too :)

Deborah No it’s not unfair I’ve done the same thing I also used to be friends with someone who never gave a book more than 2* now I’m all for honest reviews but I just found that depressing and wondered why she’d continue to read when she never liked anything.

message 18: by Katie (new)

Katie Oh, I totally agree! Because of all the obviously purchased positive reviews now a days I only pay attention to negative reviews now.
