Apparently the names of meals and what is served at each is a question of long standing and does not only apply to the Anglophone confusions regarding dinner and tea.

"Brunch" was first used in print in 1895, and is the first application of "portmanteau" to a word not invented by Lewis Carroll.

Postum sounds blah, but I will never know, as it has been discontinued.

Cola Cao is the new Postum, only worse because it makes your kids both overstimulated and fat.

Parents are suckers for marketing.

Grits are made from corn, dumbass. The question "white or wheat" refers to choice of toast.

Furthermore, hominy is not simply a synonym for maize.

I don't care if you're British, author: if you're going to write about food you need to at least make the minimal effort of googling unfamiliar terms.

these are the kind of biscuits that soak up gravy, and I have never known biscuits to do that

Way to be insular, British author. If you're reading an American novel (this is in reference to Grapes of Wrath) obviously "biscuit" does not mean "boring-cookie-like-disk".

Furthermore, I'm pretty sure a biscuit/cookie would soak up gravy if you left it long enough.
