Given the identity thesis of divine simplicity, Thomas (per Gilson's gloss) identifies God's essence with will with act of willing. Therefore, since God is the cause of all things, and God wills all things necessarily, it is hard to avoid a strong Predestinarian slant to Thomas. Indeed, one even approaches fatalism. One of my New Year's goals is to read through ST. Gilson is a helpful guide. He notes that for Thomas (and the Western tradition) God is defined as "being." He's also using personal pronouns to talk about "God" while he is defining God as "being." Is he identifying "person" with "being" (nature)?
