Getting slightly annoyed by the main character by now. Ok, I get it, she's shy, insecure and naïve. But come on, if you're being treated the way she is by a servant, you should be able to talk about that to the man you love, no? Especially if that man has always been nice to you and you've seen him scold said servant before?
I'm quite sure it would spare her a lot of anguish...
