"Based on your book preferences, you might enjoy 'Darker' by E.L. James."

Goodreads, I thought we were friends! NOTHING in my book preferences would suggest that. Fie upon your algorithms!

Katie Hanna It's okay, they've been suggesting that book to me, too . . . and to nearly all my female GR friends, as a matter of fact. I'm pretty sure it's just an advertising scam.

Rachel I came to the same conclusion. ::is annoyed::

Rachel (I'm going to assume that by "with you," you mean "along with you," and not "at you.")

Um . . . yes. That is what I meant. Along with you.

(I think this infection is interfering with my ability to think properly???)

E.F. Buckles Yep, it did that to me, too. Along with being an advertising scam, I think it probably decides that if you've ever read anything labeled "romance" it can recommend anything else labeled "romance" and doesn't take into account whether or not the type of romance you read is clean or erotica. Wouldn't it be nice if Goodreads would let us block advertising for certain types of book? Like, it can advertise romance to me, but if it's also labeled erotica, then it won't show up on my feed. Or as another example, it can advertise YA books to me, but if they also have another label I've blocked, it won't show up. Not that they'll actually do that, but it's a thought. ;)

YES!

I mean, I was able to tell them I'm not interested in that book, but that doesn't mean they won't pop up an ad for a similar book another day.

LOL. Yeah. I'm not sure what exactly is wrong, but I'm going to the doctor this morning and hopefully they can Do Something Useful about it.

Katie Hanna Update: I went to the doctor. And they Did Something Useful. So things are hopefully going to be better now :)
